A BKK ladyboy guide starts with one fact: Bangkok has the most visible trans community in Thailand, and trans women here are part of everyday city life. You meet them in offices, salons, studios, shops and universities, not only on stage. This page explains the areas, the shows, Pride, transport and safety.

Bangkok is one of the most welcoming capitals in Asia for LGBT people. If you want the wider background first, read our guide to ladyboy Thailand and the history in Thai ladyboy culture.

Neighbourhoods worth knowing

Bangkok does not have one gay or trans district. Community is spread across the city, and each area has its own pace.

  • Silom is a business district by day and one of the city's best known LGBT friendly areas in the evening, with restaurants, night markets and Pride events nearby.
  • Sukhumvit is the long road where many expats and visitors stay. It is full of cafes, malls, clinics and international restaurants, with easy access to the BTS Skytrain.
  • Ari is a quieter residential area with independent cafes and small shops, popular with creatives and professionals.
  • Siam and Ratchathewi are the shopping heart of the city and a natural meeting point, close to universities and galleries.
  • Thonglor and Ekkamai are known for design studios, restaurants and a polished social scene.

Calypso Cabaret and the show tradition

Calypso Cabaret is one of the best known cabaret shows in Bangkok, with costumes, dance, lip sync numbers and comedy performed by trans women. It is a theatre production, suitable for couples and groups, and a respectful first introduction for anyone new to the culture. Buy tickets from the official box office or website and arrive early for seating. Our events page lists pageants and other shows across Thailand.

Bangkok Pride every June

Bangkok Pride takes place every June, with a large parade, stages and community booths. Trans women lead many of the groups that organise it. The exact route and dates are announced by the organisers each year, so check their official channels before you plan your trip.

Getting around

The BTS Skytrain and MRT subway are the easiest way to move between Silom, Sukhumvit, Siam and Ari, and they avoid the worst traffic. River boats are useful for the old town and the riverside. For taxis, use a ride hailing app or insist on the meter. Late at night, ask your hotel to call a car rather than taking an offer on the street.

Safety and scams to avoid

Most visits are simple and pleasant, but a few patterns repeat in every big tourist city.

  • Ignore strangers who say a temple or attraction is closed and offer a special tour or gem shop instead.
  • Do not send money to someone you have only met online, whatever the story. Romance and visa scams often start with a sudden emergency.
  • Keep your phone and passport secure, and use the hotel safe.
  • Agree on any price before a tuk tuk ride, or skip it.
  • On dating apps, verify the person with a video call before you meet.

Nightlife, and what LadyBoy.net is about

Bangkok has a well known nightlife, and you will see it in Silom and along Sukhumvit. We do not recommend bars and we do not publish nightlife guides. LadyBoy.net is about dating and community between adults, with verified profiles and no payment for meetings. Any profile that offers paid company is removed.

Meeting respectfully

Use her name and she/her, and let her set the pace. Meet first in a cafe, a mall or another public place in daylight. Talk about her work, her plans and her city, the same way you would on any first date. Many Bangkok women speak good English, and a few Thai phrases such as sawasdee ka and khob khun are always appreciated. Our ladyboy dating page explains how matching and messages work.
